Sex Education in schools

I just saw a news story about how school boards are looking to have two sex education programs that parents can choose from. (http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=7331553) One would teach abstinance only, the other would be a conprehensive program. So this lady from Planned Parenthood was quoted as saying something like "Chlamydia is the No. 1 communicable disease in Utah". What she fails to note it that it is 100% preventable! It's really quite simple, teach students that there are consequences to ALL choices. Oh yeah and that you won't get an STD if you keep your pants up and zipped!

Is that really so difficult for teens to understand? Here's a novel idea, have guest speakers visit high school health classes, like adults that had pre-marital sex as teens and now suffer from the consequences. Teens will always make their own decisions no matter what you teach them, but maybe you'll presuade one to change their mind that that's worth it in my book. I say this because it may be my kid some day and most reasonable people when presented with correct information will make informed decisions.

What happened to holding people responsible for their actions? Why do parents let their kids do what ever they want and then not hold them responsible! I really think parents are more of the problem then the actual youth, because they don't teach them correct principles in the home. Parents have stopped parenting their children. It seems like parents are more interested in giving their kids everything they want under the guise that they didn't have what they wanted, so they'll let their kids live the life they wanted. Lack of responsibility, lack of dicipline, lack of concequences all contribute to the core problem.

Here's the final solution. Parents, GROW UP! Hold your kids responsible for their actions. WHAT A NOVEL CONCEPT! Or what if we made parents responsible for their kids actions. If the court can prove that the parent hasn't done their job in teaching the kids, they suffer the same consequences. Kid get's an STD, you loose your health insurance for the remainder of your life! Your kid has a kid, you pay child support for the rest of your life! Kid has to go to jail, you go to jail right along with them!

I heard this story on NPR today.

Sounds much like a movie I've not only seen but own! After you read this story see the 1993 Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson movie Amos & Andrew.

Funny how life mimics art.
